Examination of two Examples featuring Animation:
1st Animation Style MashUp:
This video is good version of a mashup that uses animation only along with music as it shows a selection different styles. There is a story weaving through the music and it does have some nicely timed sequences.
At the two minute mark (where I propose to stop mine) you can tell there is more to come from this video.
Notes (positive and negative):
The opening with lots of groups
Hotel Transylvania has a good lip-sync section to the key opening line and at other moments too
A wide verity of party and dance sequences chosen
Each film is listed
The end is good with Buzz and Jessie from Toy Story 3
The only comment I have about this is that there isn't a story and the scenes are not contained to a single environment such as a club.
Notes about after 2 minutes:
It picks up momentum along with the music and the clips from the animations work well with each other and don't confuse the viewer. It is nicely edited and well put together along with lip-syncing sections.
2nd Animation Style Mashup:
The is a very good example of starting the mashup.
Notes (positive and negative):
The music is started by the Minion in Despicable me and Buzz and Jessie start the party with a dance.
The bit with Baloo in the jungle book is synced well and creates a good atmosphere
As well as the bit with Tarzan and Jane right after
The bit from Tangled is good but, it I would have come in a few second later after the line "Julio get the stretch"
But the bit with Repunzel skipping is nicely timed
The part with Flynn hanging in the Snuggly Duckling with the line "call the police and the fireman" is a good visual and lyrical reference to something other than what was intended in the original song
Notes about after 2 minutes:
I really like that Dopey is having such a good time. He reminds me of Squishy in Monsters Inc. The Aristocrats has a really great party scene and then the piano falls through the house and there's a cut to Flynn falling from the roof in the tavern. It has a nice ending with Walle and Eve out in space when they share that spark.
Notes from my Investigations:
Try to match the music with images/clips
Start with a strong opening
Have a good ending
Try to keep the story confined to one location as outdoor and indoor shots can be disorienting for the viewer
Maintain a story throughout and keep constancy and
It is ok to use clips from different types of films
Also Chicken Run hasn't been used very often and I really love the party scene in it.

Story Concept/Basic Idea/Concept:
In theory, all the characters from all the animated movies come together for a Christmas party and 2020 is no ordinary year for a Christmas party. It's been a tough year all over and as Covid imapacted on a lot of work environments and the movie industry has not escaped. However, some are more into the party than others.
Spider Man from Into the Spider Verse (2018) links up the bubbles and joins all the groups, socially distanced, of course with all the other parties and is still in how own world.
The Chosen:
The Films used:
The Song used:
Individual's.
Sully:
Even though we're are at Monsters University (2011) the idea is set in Monster's Inc Christmas Party. Sully has become a workaholic and isn't used to letting his hair down anymore, unlike when he was younger at monsters university. Nevertheless, the party animal he once was is still inside him waiting to get down and boogie once more.
Ginger:
Ginger (Chicken Run, 2000) is much like Sully in that she is purely focused on her work, escaping. She has no time for realxing or partying or enjoying herself. She needs Rocky to show her what she's been missing and how to take some R'n'R that's sorely needed.
Gru:
Gru (Despicable Me, 2010) is much the same as Sully and Ginger. His work is his life and he's not about to let his adopted girls; Margo, Edith and Agnes distract him from it. However, once he hear's that beat he just can't help showing off his John Travolta moves and living it up on the dance floor.
Felix:
Felix (Wreck-it-Ralph, 2012) is not like Sully, Ginger or Gru he's a social being and loves a good party. He's going to be up all night dancing and enjoying himself till the break of dawn.
Squishy:
Squishy is the life and soul of the Monsters University Party and always up for a good time. He is responsible for Sully's return to the dance floor.

Total Time: x2 days = 8 hours per day + x1 2 hour time slot 1 week later for last review.
Review Session notes:
1. The sound that I downloaded from the iTunes stone seems to have a slight dip about 1 minute 40 seconds in.
2. About 20 seconds in the light needs to be centred in the frame.
3. Title and Credits need to be added.
As for editing itself I find it pretty easy and really love building a story thread through the overall mashup as I found that only a few of the examples I sourced had moments of a story but, not a true thread.
The overall idea is that some of participants of this party aren't as enthusiastic as others however, by the end everyone's into the party sprit.

Conclusions.
Overall this turned out to be quite a successful editing experiment. I was really pleased with the overall outcome and feel that the story is really represented well and there's interest throughout the 2 minutes that hold the attention of the viewer.
I love the look, the way the excitement builds and interaction between the guests is easy to read.
Even after several watch I still really love this and that is quite a rare for me to be with something that I've created, mostly because I usually don't like anything once I've created it.
I do think I used HSS maybe one to many times in the 2 minutes but, it doesn't look too out of place. Squishy steals the show almost all the way through going off on his own and having a good time, he even gets Sully to join in and partake. I also love Rocky and Ginger too. Wish I could have gotten more of them into the film.
I also love how the words in the song take on different meanings at different points of the film. For example when the lyrics say "master pieces" it happens to fall on Chicken Run where the models are "master pieces" and with Vector at the end where he's out on the moon and needing help to get home the lyrics say "call the police and the firemen."
Likes.
Rocky (Chicken Run) tells us that we need to "kick back and shake our tail feathers"
The radio and Dj's from the other parties all play the same song; "Uptown Funk" by Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars
Spiderman (Spiderman into the Spider Verse) links all the universes together
We are introduced to all the characters before the song really begins and those in the group who are a little reserved in getting straight into the party sprit
About 44 seconds in Squishy (Monsters University) looks like he's singing along to the line "call the police and the fireman, I'm too hot" when his actual line is "I've never stayed up this late in my life"
Squishy again is steeling the show with a great connection to the music at round 1 minute 10 seconds
Gru (Despicable Me) steps up at around 1 minute 20 seconds with a great link into the music and light
Agnes (Despicable Me) doing her solo dance looking amazing around 1 minute 30 seconds
Mac (Chicken Run) right after around 1 minute 33 seconds with her highland dancing
Sully (Monsters University) gets off the door frame at around 1 minute 38 seconds to join in
Fletcher and Nick (Chicken Run) trying to be urban street at around 1 minute 46 seconds
Art (Monsters University) 1 minute 49 seconds doing his solo
Vector (Despicable Me) out in space on the moon around 1 minute 58 seconds also like how the music says "call the police and fireman"
Sully finally gives in and joins the party with Squishy who's been encouraging him all through the night and how it times with the music "drag me out of retirement"
Dislikes.
I would have liked to do the full 4 minute that would have timed out to the actual track
I would also have liked more of HSS (Monsters University) throughout the film as it shows that no matter how rowdy the rest of the guests get they still remain the same way. No change in dance style, emotion or engagement
The beginning is a bit choppy and I would have liked to extend it out a bit to make it smoother and more clean when watching
When Rocky speaks the song from the movie is playing in the background. I would have liked to have had the speech however that's the compromise that you make when choosing sound from pre-existing footage
At around 20 seconds in we see Ginger. I would have liked a longer set up with her and I feel that would have made her connection to Rocky when they meet up and dance stronger. It would have been nice to see her feel out of place where she's felt so secure up till now.
I would also liked to have seen more of Fowler and Fowler and Bunty together. Fowler is against the party and it would have been nice to see him object for a bit longer. Also when Bunty grabs him in and then they end up Tangoing makes a nice transition for him.
About 1 minute 40 seconds in Spiderman dances with Margo, Edith and Agnes which looks slightly wrong or strange but, its not completely out of place, just a little odd. Still not sure how I would fix this, I may need to look for more footage
Poor Vector out in space all on his own with only one of the Minions to keep him company.
I know this is a bit picky but the sound from the recoding itself is a bit weird at the 1 minute 28 seconds mark, even on the official track which I downloaded from Apple Music. It is off and it annoys me.
Other films to think about with party scene:
Hotel Transylvania (2012)
Rio (2011)
Madagascar (2005)
Aladdin (1992)
Beauty and the Beast (1991)
Tangled (2008)
The Peanuts Movie (20??)
All of these are examples, not a conclusive list, that need to be assessed if they were going to be used to make up the rest of the 2 minutes or added to the existing film in some way.
